Sustainable Indian Party Wear – tips!

I’m the QUEEN of re-wearing my clothes on social media!  I wear the same dresses every summer and take pictures of myself in new places with them (and then post them to my grid).  I will often wear the same OOTD, week after week until I know all of my friends groups and family members have seen it! I do the same with my Indian party clothes.

When you have many Indian events (birthday parties, anniversaries and weddings – which are like 10 events each) it can get expensive and also environmentally unfriendly!  For that alone I try and get a good amount of wear out of my outfits.

Here are some of the tips to make good use of your Indian clothes for all of your events!

  • Rewear your wedding lengha on Karva Chauth. For us ladies who celebrate – it’s the perfect excuse to re-wear the outfit you thought you would only wear once. I’ve worn my wedding lengha at least 10 times!
  • Switch up your blouses & chunnis! I think this is most versatile way of making use of lenghas. I’ve worn a western dress top as a blouse and also my mom’s vintage 1980’s blouse – it can completely change the vibe of an outfit
  • Learn to open a stitch and use fabric no sew hemming options: your body changes over the years. Being able to adjust your clothes on your own will save you both time and money.
  • Take advantage of dress rental companies: I’ve yet to do this but I think this is a great way of creating sustainability in your community.

Sunday Reset Guide

I am writing this Saturday night because I wanted to get this out there on time!

And this was actually quite easy for me share because I always end up doing majority of the activities every Sunday. It feels great because it’s a natural progression to the end of my week (which I love)!

To me, the “Sunday resets” however they look (read: sped up tik tok video or otherwise!) are meant to bring the art of leisure back into our lives and set us up to build routines for our ideal lifestyle.

Hopefully these are some things you can add to your Sunday!

  1. Sleep in a little longer!
  2. Swap out your workout for a walk in nature, pilates or yoga
  3. Write a brain dump list
  4. Take “the” shower
  5. Change your sheets!

Starting the new year with renewed focus and intention

It was a GREAT 20 days of blogmas! I am pretty impressed with my ability, consistency and ambition.  I think it was the longest streak of blogging I’ve had in a long time.  For January, I’ll be returning to more regular yet less frequent blog posts.  Maybe, it will be twice a week and centered around a new theme – I haven’t confirmed my creative process yet! :P

<Admin reminder for myself> I’ve also yet to share all the posts on Pinterest so that will take some time in January also. So between editing titles (taking out the word “blogmas”), promoting on Pinterest (and twitter & instagram for that matter) I know I’ll be scaling back.  </end reminder>

So here is my first post – post blogmas!  It’s a multi day vlog showing my routines & habits.  All things I want to continue focusing on in the new year.  Whether that’s nature works, morning workouts, journaling, reading, meditating, doing well in my career – it’s a reminder that my Focus and Intention needs be all about consistency.  So hopefully it inspires others out there who want to start (or stay on …like me) the journey of their personal development and self growth.

I love reading productivity and lifestyle hacks!  But when they are written in the form of lists – they make it easier to follow!  It’s almost like a mental checklist that I can create in my head and tick off the things that I am already doing and then plan for the things I want to try.

Things I think are worth knowing about spirituality

I know spirituality (ie: not religion) is becoming more main stream and I love that for the collective human experience.  Below sharing a few interesting things about spirituality (and life!) that are really worth knowing.

We are merely reflections of each other

Love is the only emotion that vibrates from the soul

Your thoughts create your reality

The moon enhances psychic powers

The sun unlocks DNA

Crystals are found in tech devices

You are what you eat

Be productive when you are not motivated

We all have those days (heck maybe weeks) where productivity wains and we feel less than stellar about the work we aren’t getting done.  I have a few thoughts on that, one being that productivity ebbs & flows – it’s all part of the process.  Secondly, I ALWAYS say no to hustle culture.  I mean, like the rest of us …I want it all (progressive career, great marriage, be a loving mother, hang with my friends, drink 3L of water and workout daily) – but I remember that REST will help me accomplish all the things.

  1. Take a break from your workplace
Essentially you want to remove yourself from you current situation. Whether that means taking a walk, going to a coffee shop or sitting on your deck.  Changing your environment (and in short order) will provide a new perspective as well as a break so you can come back with a fresh mind.
  2. Put your phone in another room
Staying off your socials, not constantly checking chat/emails or other apps  will help to eliminate distractions (which when providing a false/high dopamine fix will further prevent one from getting work done).  I’m yet to master this …let alone try it… But we all know mindless doom scrolling and social media comparisons, can put you in a funk. So an easy way to remove distractions is to time block your phone breaks.
  3. Complete the smallest – easiest task:
What is important here is create the impression of progress on our minds.  One small task could be finishing a bottle of water or sending an email you are dreading.  Once you complete that task, and mark it off your list – it will create an automatic momentum and willingness to keep going!
  4. Use the momentum and a focused playlist to keep going:
Once you’ve completed one task, use the that feeling to keep you going on to something else.  Sometimes it helps to play your favourite music or a brown noise playlist. Keep on single tasking till you get three of your top priorities completed.
