A goal is a goal

I have 6 more days left in my blog challenge and although I have a blog calendar I don’t have anything prepped for today’s post.  And by today I actually mean yesterday.  And by prepped I mean have my talking points or pictures ready.  I definitely will be going back to my 3 day a week posting scheduling after this challenge is over.  Not sure what I was thinking when I thought I could do 5 days a week of blogging (I remember my teacher saying that even 4 days a week of blogging is not easy).  But it’s a goal I set for myself and I intend to meet it.  So today’s post is more of a #DiaryEntry.

Photo taken circa 2011 in Paris after my MBA convocation

Yesterday was the mister’s MBA convocation.  (If you need ideas on how to spend solo parenting time with your kid you can read this).  At first Miss S didn’t want to attend because she was going to have water play day at her preschool.  I was a little sad but also relieved because having her miss a celebration of her father’s achievement would be disappointing but keeping a toddler quite and still for 2 hours would not be easy.  However because the forecast for the day was raining she had decided that she didn’t want to go to preschool and would attend the graduation ceremonies.  Luckily, I had 2 sets of grandparents to help! …All went well except when both kids wanted me to hold them LOL.    Thank goodness for my sling and strong arms :)

This morning we I had early wake up calls (thanks to our #HumanAlarmClocks).  Brought the older one to our bed and she played with my hair and back so I could sleep for another 20 minutes.  Managed to get her ready for the day (bathroom, dressed, breakfast and play time) and write in my journal before the baby woke up.  We let the new grad sleep in 1.5 hours more before I made the toddler wake him up :)

This evening we are heading out to my parents house for a belated Father’s Day BBQ.

Hope everyone is having a wonderful Saturday.

Weekend Activities + Weekly Goals (Part 8)

June 18 2017

I may or may not have become addicted to Netflix documentaries.  The lack of unstructured days is starting to get to me and Netflix takes up too much time.  Or maybe I need a way to decompress during one of the those days that seem longer than they actually are.

I should push myself to workout, foam roll, stretch, meditate or even take a bubble bath – but pressing the space bar a few times to restart the docu I was watching is easier (and quieter).  I am tired, the sink is full of dirty dishes, I barely got a workout in (got my 10K steps and promptly removed my fitbit), ate a little too much popcorn and ice cream #LeftOverPartyFood…. ookkkkaaay <end rant>  After I finish this blog post, I am

  • Foam Rolling
  • Journalling
  • Drinking Water, Brushing my teeth and flossing
  • Going to bed!

I’ve committed to this June Blog Challenge so here I am – gotta show up and do that damn thing.

Weekend Activities + Weekly Goals (Part 7)

TLY_MLWW_7_b

We had an awesome weekend.  The weather was superb and the blazing heat was welcomed because we experienced such an overcast and gloomy spring.

Friday we had wings at home and then packed up the car to get ready for the next day.  We spent the better part of the day at the beach we were pleasantly surprised as to how much Miss S enjoyed herself but were perplexed as to why Miss El seemed so confused the entire time we were there.  We later realized it was because we were all wearing sunglasses (and maybe she couldn’t recognize us lol).

Sunday we were at a birthday party.  Backyard bouncy castle, Pizza with chip toppings and lots of kids of course.

The workweek was actually spent running sooo many errands.  From doing groceries, to gift shopping, to getting last minute stuff for the day at the beach as well as planning for Miss S’ 3rd birthday.

Also I’d just like to add (so my future self can remember) that even with this list of weekly goals and regular maternity leave tasks, I still accomplish and complete many other to-do items to run and mange the house like: clean the floors, prep dinner, make lunches, do preschool drop off/pick up, general tidying, multiple loads of laundry, pay bills, claim receipts etc etc in any case here is how I did with my goals last week.

  1. Read another chapter of the book I am reading (sadly no, I am struggling to find the right time to read – holding a book while nursing isn’t very comfortable)
  2. Bread this week? Bread this week! (nope, and I realized i can’t commit to this goal until after June)
  3. Take some more everyday photography shots and move photos from SD Card yep, see this post
  4. Get my 10K steps 5/7 days next week & Work out 4/7 times DONE
  5. Take Miss El to the Born to Read library program (weather did not permit, and parking this until the end of June)
  6. Figure out a layout for our 2015 photo album Yep and started
  7. Update family room painting from black on white to white on black
  8. Thursday Meditation
  9. Put away all clean laundry
  10. Order Miss S birthday Cake (we talked to the bakery and got the details and will be happening tomorrow)

Ok 5 out of 10 this past week.  The next couple of days are all about Miss S birthday!

  1. Read a chapter
  2. Take some everyday/creative photography
  3. Get my 10K steps in 5/7 days and workout 4/7 days
  4. Tuesday Self Care: Mediate, Bath and Yoga
  5. Put away clean laundry
  6. Order birthday cake
  7. Finalize day of party plan + list of things to bring
  8. Join Miss S’ Preschool bday party
  9. Find family pictures from last 3 years
  10. Send pix to friends

Have a great week!

Parchment Paper Dinner

Screen Shot 2017-06-05 at 12.46.25 PM

Slow cooker, weekend food prep, left overs, sheet pan meals, bbq, pizza night, breakfast for dinner and now parchment paper meals should be part of every parents arsenal of meal options!

TLY_ParchmentDinner1

I now make it at least 3 times a month.  It so easy to prep and even easier to clean up!  I used this Dr. Oz recipe and used the veggies I had on hand.  Still ahh-mazing!

What you need:

– Chicken Breast (I sliced each in half and we had enough for 2 slices per person)
– Garlic
– Butter
– Spinach
– Red Pepper
– Salt & Pepper
– Olive Oil

What you’ll do:

1. Preheat oven to 400°F.

2. Fold the parchment paper (12×18 inches) in half, then open up.

3. Lay a bed of spinach on the open parchment paper.

4. Mix the minced garlic and butter in a small bowl and spoon half of the garlic butter on top of the spinach.

5. Lay the chicken on the spinach, season with salt and pepper.

6. Slice the red pepper and lay the slices on top of the chicken and spoon on the rest of the garlic butter.

7. Fold the parchment paper over the chicken, and cinch the paper together by folding it over itself along the edges.

7. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until internal temperature of chicken reaches 165˚F.

8. Remove from paper and server with spagetti or with a salad ….& Enjoy!

Yesterday I meditated

I realized that I needed to actually meditate (not just throw it off my goals list with an excuse).  I also realized I needed a bit of guidance.  Thank goodness for free apps from the Appstore.  I tried this one as recommended by my sister.

TLY_YestMedi2

There was a little too much talking but I did appreciate the idea the announcer made of feeling my body’s weight and listening to the sounds around you (usually with mediation you try not to focus on those things).  When my thoughts wandered, I tried to focus mainly on counting (from 1 to 10) and following my breath.

It actually felt really relaxing and I even got an idea of something to paint #The100DayProject.

Something that helped me get in the mood was actually putting on clothes to mediate in. #GetUpDressUpShowUpNeverGiveUp

If you been following the last 5 days, you might have noticed that I’ve blogged everyday from Monday to Friday and, as a goal and personal challenge, will continue to do so for the rest of June 2017.

You also might notice that I didn’t actually get this post published on time.  I did 10 sun salutations for the first time in months yesterday and my muscles really felt the effects.

I take a LOT of pictures.  Yet I still have to find an effective way to getting them off the hard drive (or rather first off the SD card) and into my hands.  I did order this but still need to work on photo books for the last few years.  Definitely need to put my head down and get those done and printed.  Somewhat related story: Miss S saw one of her friends’ mom using a Canon DSLR and promptly told the Mister that she was using momma’s camera!  Luv you girl!

In a world where we are scrolling through feeds and craving that insta-gratification I feel even more compelled to save our memories not for the vanity metrics but rather for us to cherish forever.

Enter the app 1 Second Everyday.   This app and personal project has been by far the best creative endeavour I have taken in the last year.  It only requires a few minutes a day and the output is BEAUTIFUL and UNREAL.  I literally watch my compiled video of the last 7 months (ok 6 months because I was almost 9 months pregnant in February and forgot to take daily videos! Because taking naps trumped everything) several times a week and I am smiling ear to ear.

Miss S is already in love with it which makes my heart glow.  6 months of video is just under 3 minutes so another 6 months will take me to 6 minutes.  What a perfect way to remember the year.
