Blogmas | Tech definitions for you and your grandma

I recently listed to Brit Morin explained a few tech buzzwords and I felt compelled to share!  Check out the definitions for you and your grandma below!

Web 3.0

This essentially means we are in the 3rd version of the world wide web/internet. But there is a very interesting difference between each version (shout out to all the folks who know how to swith their floppy from read to write).

Web 1.0 was dial up where most of the users could only READ what was posted by government or other professional bodies.  Web 2.0 was where people started actually creating content on the internet.  Whether that was blog posts, facebook photo albums or youtube tutorials – meaning we were able to WRITE on the internet.  Web 3.0 is where it’s tricky.  We are still creating content, but we now are starting to realize we do not own any of that data.  Like I am writing this post right now, but I have no legitimate ownership of these words.  It’s technically owned by the companies that store the data (ie: go daddy and wordpress).  When we had floppy disks we could write to it and also share it with others without a real worry that it was going to be stolen.  But now because go daddy has got my blog post on their servers I can’t be for sure they won’t use it for their own gain).

It’s an interesting concept that brings up a lot of questions about control and ownership.

Blockchain

Think of block chain as at type of technology that acts like a ledger.  What is a ledger, it’s a term used in banking to document all transactions of an institution.  Blockchain can be used to track all types & details of transactions (details such as: who made the txn, when, was something bought, was something sold etc).  Why does this matter?  Well blockchain has the ability to be the bridge between moving society from only writing on Web 2.0 to successful ownership of one’s own data in Web 3.0 (because Web 3.0 was built on blockchain).  There are more uses of blockchain like identity and finance but just thinking of it as a book that records all the details of any type of transaction is key.

Blogmas | Christmas lights in the city

We just got back from a little family adventure downtown to check out some of the free festive set ups!  We started with an early dinner (our first choice was Spaghetti Factory, but the wait was wayyyy too long) at a long time favourite with the kids Jack Astors. Unfortunately didn’t get any shots of enjoying the time there, but we had a corner booth and the food was just amazing!

We immediately headed out to see the Fairmount Hotel windows – which were surprisingly cute!

While we made our way to Yorkville, S needed to drop off some of her meal bags (she’s working on a badge for girl guides) so we drove around in circles but could only find 1 person to drop them off at (we ended up leaving them in front of a church).

At Yorkville the kids were more amused by the big mountain 😆 which left me tons of time to enjoy the light display!

Blogmas | Podcasts I’m listening to right now

I don’t know what I’ll do if they ever make it a full subscription model for free learning mediums like podcasts and youtube!  But grateful I get access to virtual mentors world wide through podcasts!

I am really into personal success stories, biographies & female empowerment when it comes to my taste in podcasts.   Read below to learn more about the podcasts I’m into these days (in no particular order):

Diary of a CEO: is hosted by Steve Barlett (an investor from Dragon’s Den) who is able to get the most comprehensive and value add stories from his guests.  I really love that given all of his experience he still breaks it down so anyone listening can gain the knowledge that he already knows to be true.  My only qualm is that each episode is over an hour.

CEO School: is hosted by Suneera Madhani.  A brown girl unicorn founder and CEO.  She shares her own lived experienced lessons that are so relatable.  She also talks about smart topics such as how to level up in business and in life.  I really love wine-down Wednesdays, episodes are not over 25 min

*are we seeing a pattern here*

Goal Digger: is hosted by Jenna Kutcher (who’s amazing success story had me hooked from day 1: she was a SAHM, bought a DSLR and built a 7 figure biz).  She talks about EVERYTHING from crypto, to side hustles, to daily finances to biohacking.  I recently found her and so glad I did!

Podcast, podcast episodes, goals, productivity, entrepreneurship, business, corporate girlie

Affirmation Babe: hosted by Ashley Diana (what a beautiful name!). Her episodes are affirmations on important topics for most women. The episodes are less than 20 minutes and serve the dose of positivity and optimism you need to fill your mind with to change your story. One word of caution: some episodes contain explicit words so read the titles before playing on speaker!

Leadership Babes: is hosted by Atena Morelli & Laura Wizman. I’m new to this podcast but their topics are all about the journey to success: mindset, manifestation, and creating the consistency to build the life of your dreams. (if you are looking for a planner spread: check out my digital wellness and agenda pages here)

The Daily Motivation: Is hosted by Lewis Howes. You might know him as a lifestyle entrepreneur or best selling author – annnddd he was actually a footballer player. I really enjoy this podcast because each episode is less than 10 min and include the real impact & actionable steps of his longer episodes

Blogmas | Las Vegas

We recently went to Las Vegas!  This is actually my 5th trip to sincity (and 3rd trip with at least 1 kiddo!)

We tried to do some new things this time.  So sharing some of what we got up to!  All activities are family friendly (aka dooable for the kidos and the grandparents!

Hike in Zion National Park

After our Banff Trip, we knew our kids enjoyed hiking in nature.  So we weren’t going to let a 3hr drive stop us from experience that is Zion National Park.  There is a variety of hikes for all level of hikers but of course we stuck to the easy paved hikes.  I would have loved to spend another day or two there but doing the lower Emrald pools hike was a great taste of Zion. The views are breath taking.  And going in November meant you weren’t dealing with the desert heat.

Venice Gondola Ride

This quick copy cat ride of the famous gondola experience in Venice is a great activity for any age. This is my 3rd ride, but my youngest one did this for the first time when she was 5 months old!
Although the ride is super quick (under 15 min) there is an opportunity to learn about vegas, hear a beautiful serenade and enjoy some time in a boat on the water (always relaxing)!

Flamingo Habitat

This place is a vibe!  In the middle of the Las Vegas strip is a gorgeous outdoor setting with palm, trees, waterfalls and cute animals!  This completely free activity is like a trip to a mini zoo.  Kids of all ages will love the animals and watching the fishes (which are mesmerizing to watch on the bridge).

Seven Magic Mountains

7MM is an outdoor art display of stacked colourful boulders. It’s a great place to do an IG transition and they are even safe enough to climb (carefully ofcourse! for the perfect shot)
I did read if you got at 9am, you’ll beat the crowds, but we went mid afternoon to get the most sunshine!

Cereal Killersz

The Cereal Killerz Kitchen is actually a Cereal Bar. They have every cereal ever made + some rare ones that were only available for a short time and then of course some you haven’t head of! The best part was that they have alternative milk options! You can a classic cereal and milk bowl, or a millkshake. I would definite go back here next time!

Blogmas | Intro & My Why

Happy December 1st! Long time no talk ;)

I’m one of those (analogue) people who looooooooves scrolling through the archives of a blog. I love seeing the beginning of people’s stories. I find it inspiring.

When it comes to my own blog, I NEVER look through the archives. I find it so cringe that I end up making my older blog posts private!

But at least I have them there, I have the stories and the ideas from the beginning. And really it’s all about keeping up with the practice that I admire in others and even myself.

So I’ve decided to start a BLOGMAS!

What is Blogmas?

For the Tiktok kids in the back, “Blogmas” is a series of posts on a blog leading up to Christmas (Dec 25th). It can be done on any online medium (or even offline). But my first memory of it was watching vlogmas done by YouTubers in 2012.

Why am I doing Blogmas?

I’m doing it for both logical and emotional reasons. Logical because I want to be writing, creating and posting more often – discipline is the name of that game! From an emotional perspective because I want have memories 🙂 Also because I’ve officially reopened my Etsy shop, I want to ensure that I’m aligning all of my online presences and themes: Inspiration, Consistency, Happiness & Productivity.
Lastly, the hope is that I’ll learn something from participating in Blogmas that I can either share here on the blog or implement on my Etsy store.

How can YOU participate?

In any way really! It can be something online or unplugged. You can paint for 25 day. Share a new pic IG for 25 days. Create a youtube channel and start Vlogmas. You can volunteer at a soup kitchen for 25 days or learn a new skill for the next 25 days.

It’s all about staying consistent, creating, learning something & having fun!

And of course, be sure to check back over the next 24 days and follow along with my Blogmas!
