Planting Tomatoes & Gardening Next Steps

TLY_GardenUpdate9

TLY_GardenUpdate3I FINALLLLYY got around to planting some tomato seeds.  I picked up some ‘initial’ potting mix from Lowes and made a container with a pretty decent drainage system using a tin can and a plate (making the drain holes with a good ol hammer and nail).

I started the process on Wednesday Afternoon after running some errands and during what I thought would be a nice car seat nap for Miss El.  Unfortunately she woke up crying because of the hammering.  So I had to finish planting the seeds the next day (after the girls’ bedtime) in the garage.  I followed the directions on both the potting mix bag and the seeds envelope.

So within a few days, the tomato seeds sprouted.  I was actually kind of shocked.

And with the basil I’ve harvested 5 times: 2 batches given to both sets of parents and twice I’ve eaten a caprese salad :)  The last harvest is in the fridge most likely to be eaten in a caprese salad also.

To be completely honest I am petrified and exhilarated by this whole process.  Here are my next steps

  • Buy a real plant container
  • Research how to transplant tomato seedlings and basil plants
  • Re-research how to harvest basil
  • Buy the “next level” of nutrient rich soil
  • Transplant the plants to the new containers
  • Get on a better schedule for watering
  • Teach Miss S about the plants (mainly so she doesn’t accidentally destroy them)

3 Ingredient Breakfast Cookie Recipe

I am always on the look out for a healthy cookie!  (Here is one that I make a lot!)

The other day while searching pinterest I found yet another healthier option for my favourite sweet treat.  The best part? …there is no butter or eggs AND it only uses 3 ingredients (which includes the best one: CHOCOLATE CHIPS!).

Here’s what you need:

  • 2 ripe bananas (the more ripe the better)
  • 1 cup of quick oats
  • dark chocolate chips (amount is up to you lol)

Here’s what you do:

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees
  2. Mash the bananas with a fork
  3. Add in the oats and mix well
  4. Fold in chocolate chips
  5. Scoop 1 tbsp cookie mix mounds onto a sheet pan lined with parchment
  6. Flatten / shape the cookies
  7. Bake for 15 min, remove from oven and let cool for 5 minutes
  8. Enjoy with your coffee :)

The long weekend is almost here!

I literally have been so busy at work that some days I come home and put Miss S to bed and fall asleep on the couch by 8:30pm!!!  Data Conversion projects will do that to you I suppose.

We are all looking forward to a long weekend over here.  Lots of festive activities planned including an easter egg hunt, day time beverages (for us at least), brunching’ and maybe a little date action.  Happy Easter!

I made the BEST chicken curry today!  It was so good I surprised myself!  (Which I rarely do with my cooking).

The Hubz and I are working on an Art Deco wall project for above our sofa in the living room.  It’s embarrassing but our walls have been bare for the entire time we’ve been in our place.  I’m glad I finally got some inspiration.   I wore this outift for our trip to Ikea to pick up some supplies.
