Miss El’s Two Month Update

Time is FLYING.  I never felt that time was moving too fast when Miss S was a newborn but it’s literally moving at light speed with our baby El :$

I think we’ve finally found a groove when it comes to having two kiddos.  It was / still is very challenging navigating the evening (dinner/night time routine with all the nursing sessions) and weekends.  What’s helped us is communication, keeping the the toddler busy with kid centric activities and lots of extra hugs/love.

I’ve also been way more confident with a 2 month old newborn then I was the first time around.  Miss El has already been to a few playdates, library program groups and countless mall and grocery runs.  It’s fun having a new bestie to hang with :)

Miss El loves exploring the world while on her tummy, kicking her legs, waving her arms around, she loves her playmat and mobiles with music.  She’s been smiling for a few weeks and recently started cooing.  I almost even got her to giggle (although haven’t heard the infamous “baby laugh” yet).  She’s found her hands and so watching the trial and error of her bringing her fists to her mouth is inspiring (I think only parents can understand what I mean here).

Miss El has also changed my relationship with Miss S. I am learning to be more and more patient and do all things with love.  (Which is challenging when you have a toddler!)  But I know I am a better mom because of it.

Why I #babywear @sakurabloom

A few weeks ago, I saw on Sakura Bloom’s instagram page that they were holding a contest for ring sling / outfit style mood boards.  Although I didn’t get a chance to create my set in time – I loved the idea of doing one (or a few hehe).

When I was expecting with Miss S #BabyWearing was the first thing I researched (in regards to parenthood) and the Sakura Bloom ring sling was the first thing I bought.

I completely fell in love with having my baby close to me and realized early on that the ring sling (as opposed to a buckled carrier) was more my style.

I started wearing Miss S when she was about 2 weeks old and continued to wear her until she was almost one and half.  I would wear her to grocery shop, get things done around the house, on vacation/out and about or just when she wanted to be held.

Once she become more independent (and around the time she stopped nursing) she and I both realized that it was time to fold up and store the sling (seriously this sling rolls up so tiny and takes up no room at all).

Best thing about #BabyWearing…how AWESOME it is to hold your baby but still have your hands free.

Now that Miss El has joined us, our sling has taken on a whole new meaning.  I started wearing her when she was 2-3 days old (using the newborn carry – tummy to tummy with legs “froggied” in).  I can give more time to my toddler without putting my newborn down.  I can go for a quick neighbourhood walk, prep dinner, get the house in order and put my make up on with her close to me.  Lastly, we use the sling during the evening when everyone is hangry and tired and this momma doesn’t have enough hands to go around :)

If you haven’t tried a carrier I would definitely recommend the Sakura Bloom Ring Sling. That said, there is a bit of a learning curve in wearing your baby in a ring sling, but with practice it becomes second nature.

Miss El’s One Month Update

Wow I can’t believe I’m starting another kiddo update series.

The last month has been so great and so challenging at the same time.  And at times, I get stressed and call the Hubz (at work no less) in a panic but I also keep reminding myself to have perspective because the days are long but the years are short.

Miss El is 1 month old and most of her day is spent nursing, in someone’s arms, in a sling or sleeping.  As of late she’s started to use her hands to feel/bat at things discovering textures, our skin, random parts of her toys.  She is also a snuggler!  She will burry her head into the nook between my head and shoulder and always makes herself comfy when she wants to listen to my heartbeat on my chest.

She instantly knows when Miss S is beside her or squeezing her too hard giving her a hug.   I sense she knows who her sister is.  It’s very interesting to see them interacting (simple things like looking into each others eyes) – which is surprising to me because I didn’t think there would be much interaction at this age.

She gets a ton of kisses, hugs, finger jabs and hair pulls (all out of love – I hope!) from her big sis who just can’t wait to play with her.

Miss S (2.75 years) |  Miss El (3 weeks)

Another thing about our Miss El is that her lips shape up into a smile more than I thought a newborn could. As hard as its been in the last month, seeing that makes everything more manageable.  (South Asian culture says that when a baby smiles they are remembering their past life.  I like to think she recognizes us and is happy to see us)

Along with all those smiles is a lot of crying and night wakes. So it balances it out I guess! (haha)

Life Lately #ForMemoriesSake

I thought I’d do a life lately post for memories sake.  Although we take a lot of photos on our phones I have to really work on taking photos with my big camera.  Second to that I really have to work on printing those photos.  I am so guilty of taking photos and hoarding them on a single storage device.  Hence why I’ve started sharing more on this blog.  At least I’ll have these posts for memories sake.

Adding another kiddo to the fambam is a no joke. (LOL – read nervous laughter!!)

Bringing one child into the lives of two adults is nothing compared to having a second.  With your first, your whole world revolves around the one child and then you all of sudden you have to share/split your energy, time, tasks, responsibilities between two – it’s a real game changer.

Although I’ve been told after you have two you could have ten no problem… LOL!

Miss S is really into Miss E.  She’s all about the kisses, finger hugs, feeding with bottles, helping to get things, telling me that Miss E is biting me lol etc.  Although as now a mom of two, I have felt and seen a sting from my older little towards me and the Hubz.  We are doing our best to spend as much time with her and even giving her special “day-dates” with either both or one of us so I am hoping that this is a phase and it will pass soon.

I have been balancing quite a bit – but I actually feel good about it.  Along with the responsibilities of a growing family, I am trying to be more active on my social media channels, making plans for growth here and also finishing up a course I am enrolled in.  So yes a babe on the hip and studying is a real thing for me right now.

That said, I am trying to rest as much as possible and listen to my body as well.  I did make it out for a lunch run with the Hubz the other day.  It felt good to get out wear something cute and freeze our butts off in this prolonged Canadian winter :P

And of course I am spending tons of time cuddling a newborn.  It definitely feels different this time around.  Maybe because I have more knowledgable or maybe because I don’t have enough time to think about things because we are literally in survival mode some nights :)

As with the last time, I am nursing and pumping.  It provides me the closeness as well as the freedom that I need as a woman and a momma :)

Highlighter | Night Cream | Eye Cream | Sling | Blouse (similar)

Spring is here and I am completely in the mood to refresh my routine and start wearing some lighter colours.  Also planning on #babywearing for some neighbourhood walks :)

In April I plan to setting up 3 daily to-dos to keep myself inspired and motivated as my mat leave really begins.  Things like:

  • getting out for a sling walk with Miss E
  • going to the library program
  • getting to a mommies group
  • also adding more to the blog and etsy (more photography, more inspiration and maybe some vlogging/videography)
  • Scheduling Posts (blog and social channels)
  • Change my nail polish, straighten my hair or do a facemark #SelfCare!!

Some other things I was thinking about is:

  • Writing out the birth story (if anything for memories sake)
  • Printing some photos
  • Reading more books!
  • Working on some new projects and mentorships
  • Working out again (really looking forward to this)
  • Painting, Planting and Knitting :)
  • Figure out my #The100DayProject project #SoExcited

For memories sake…

We had our newest little addition join us over the weekend.  L&D, recovery and the whole “expecting” experience was interesting and completely different than the first time.  Not sure if I want to share how it went down but we’ll see.  That said, without further ado…I am here to introduce Miss El :)

What am I…

Feeling: anxious, excited, nervous, happy, scared, joyful, #momguilt

Doing: feeding, laundry, tidying, cuddling, listening to lecture + doing homework/assignments (the class I am in goes on until Apr 10)

Thinking: not taking enough photos, crap.. need to add that to my to-do list, do I really need to sleep

Thanks for reading and have great weekend!

The age old discussion about how much to share online.  Although I’ve retracted from Facebook for the most part I still do share a lot of visuals into my life on Instagram and even more imagery and words on my blog.  I guess I feel my blog is more for me anyway and for me anything I share online is a “high light real” for the the most part.

Kiddo Update #MomDiaries

It’s been a minute since I’ve written an update post on the diva that is Miss S and I honestly which I could do it more often.
TLY_Sanya32m_1 TLY_Sanya32m_3 TLY_Sanya32m_7
She’s a handful for sure (like any toddler) but I always remind myself that when the days seem long, the years are short!  I want to look back and have pictures, words & memories to remind myself (and her and the hubz) of all the hilariousness, repetitive repetition (lol), craziness, hectic and innocence of this time.

So without further ado here is Miss S’s almost 32 month update:
Favourite Food:
Jam, Chicken McNuggets and Fries, Ikea kids breakfast (egg, sausage and like 3.5 pieces of toast),  Potatoes (preferably some fried form, lol), Apples, cupcakes, Vanilla cake and icing
Favourite Activity:
Water colour painting, Messy Painting (using acrylic paints), using markers, sticking stickers on ANYTHING, helping daddy make fish for dinner, playing doctor (checking our heartbeat and giving us shots/bandaids), feeding us from her pretend play kitchen/play food, doing puzzles, making towers from lego/duplo, face timing anyone (lol),  playing with her older cousin brother and she loves singing songs along with me (12 days of Christmas, Let it go etc) and I love when she attempts to harmonize with me :)
Funny Sayings:
  • For some reason, when there is a U in a word or sentence she makes it LU (pronounced “leeww”) and it’s the most endearing
  • Silly momma, silly gooses
  • When she sings the alphabet and she gets to the last verse “double u, x, y and z, noooooow my mommy ABC, next time won’t you sing with me”
  • After she sings jingle bells….”watch the wataa boom boom” #DontAsk
  • “Not anyting” which usually means nothing LOL
