Long weekend BBQ with friends #May24

This would be our second annual BBQ and I am liking if this becomes an annual thing with our friends (of course we’d love to be able to host our friends over for a meal / potluck more often).

This time we kept it pretty casual by inviting our friends via our whatsapp group chats (ha!).

On the grill the mister had:

  • Veggie and paneer skewers
  • Hotdogs (halal and veggie)
  • Eggplant “burgers” (with spinach mayo sauce)
  • Simple BBQ chicken drumsticks
  • Pineapple

Plus one of friends brought a deep fryer to make fish and chips.

With our society becoming more and more busy (long hours at the office, kids extra curricular activities etc) and on our screens than #IRL, I think it’s even more important to put the effort towards friendships, in person interactions and events.

Although a pretty huge undertaking, planning and executing a lunch or dinner party is always a goal/to do item on our mental check lists.  That said, we definitely weren’t thinking it through much because during all the prep work we were dealing with Miss El’s feeding schedule and skipping the elusive toddler nap (for Miss S).  But I am glad we managed to pull it off and enjoyed ourselves in the process.

Life Lately #ForMemoriesSake

I thought I’d do a life lately post for memories sake.  Although we take a lot of photos on our phones I have to really work on taking photos with my big camera.  Second to that I really have to work on printing those photos.  I am so guilty of taking photos and hoarding them on a single storage device.  Hence why I’ve started sharing more on this blog.  At least I’ll have these posts for memories sake.

Adding another kiddo to the fambam is a no joke. (LOL – read nervous laughter!!)

Bringing one child into the lives of two adults is nothing compared to having a second.  With your first, your whole world revolves around the one child and then you all of sudden you have to share/split your energy, time, tasks, responsibilities between two – it’s a real game changer.

Although I’ve been told after you have two you could have ten no problem… LOL!

Miss S is really into Miss E.  She’s all about the kisses, finger hugs, feeding with bottles, helping to get things, telling me that Miss E is biting me lol etc.  Although as now a mom of two, I have felt and seen a sting from my older little towards me and the Hubz.  We are doing our best to spend as much time with her and even giving her special “day-dates” with either both or one of us so I am hoping that this is a phase and it will pass soon.

I have been balancing quite a bit – but I actually feel good about it.  Along with the responsibilities of a growing family, I am trying to be more active on my social media channels, making plans for growth here and also finishing up a course I am enrolled in.  So yes a babe on the hip and studying is a real thing for me right now.

That said, I am trying to rest as much as possible and listen to my body as well.  I did make it out for a lunch run with the Hubz the other day.  It felt good to get out wear something cute and freeze our butts off in this prolonged Canadian winter :P

And of course I am spending tons of time cuddling a newborn.  It definitely feels different this time around.  Maybe because I have more knowledgable or maybe because I don’t have enough time to think about things because we are literally in survival mode some nights :)

As with the last time, I am nursing and pumping.  It provides me the closeness as well as the freedom that I need as a woman and a momma :)

Spring is here and I am completely in the mood to refresh my routine and start wearing some lighter colours.  Also planning on #babywearing for some neighbourhood walks :)

In April I plan to setting up 3 daily to-dos to keep myself inspired and motivated as my mat leave really begins.  Things like:

  • getting out for a sling walk with Miss E
  • going to the library program
  • getting to a mommies group
  • also adding more to the blog and etsy (more photography, more inspiration and maybe some vlogging/videography)
  • Scheduling Posts (blog and social channels)
  • Change my nail polish, straighten my hair or do a facemark #SelfCare!!

Some other things I was thinking about is:

  • Writing out the birth story (if anything for memories sake)
  • Printing some photos
  • Reading more books!
  • Working on some new projects and mentorships
  • Working out again (really looking forward to this)
  • Painting, Planting and Knitting :)
  • Figure out my #The100DayProject project #SoExcited

New Years 2017

We celebrated the incoming new year with our annual friends bash.  To make it super easy on everyone we do a potluck which is great because there is a lot of variety from healthy to wholesome to downright calorie splurge :)

All the kids were playing with each other which actually kind of backfired because they were all super cranky and tired by 9:30pm rolled around #WompWomp.

Needless to say we didn’t make it to new years!  But we had a great time none-the-less!

Life Lately

As busy as this time of year is for us (Rakhi, Diwali, Kaurva Chauth, Birthdays and Anniversaries) we are still pretty much pulled in a million different directions with a million other things not related to any of those.

The mister is on the last leg of his MBA (we are ALL looking forward to it being over – especially Miss S).  She is the most happiest when he doesn’t have evening class or group meetings but she’s kind of use to it.  Crazy how kiddos are so aware.

Outside of that I have registered for a marketing class.  It’s a lot of reading and writing – and I didn’t realize how much work it would be.

The weather has tremendously cooled down so our park days are over for now (unless we can make it on a sunny Saturday – which hasn’t happened yet).  So I’ve picked up some more art and craft supplies to give Miss S some new creative activities.  Beads, pipe cleaners, glue stick, feathers, pom poms and water colour paints (still trying to find a pair of toddler friendly scissors).  Her water colouring painting require some serious concentration!

Outside of that doing my very best to eat more veggies, protein, get my 10K + steps in a day (#LOVEMyFitBit), reading ACTUAL books, dishes, home cooking, keeping up with 1se (gaah missed a few days) and reeelaaax when I can.

A little #DocumentLife post for ya

Had a busy week and weekend so wasn’t able to get another post in until now.  So what I am up to?  Watching the baby monitor, #SB50 playing in the background, pretending I don’t see Miss S’ play area as a disaster zone, finishing up some laundry and doing some SQL tutorials via Khan Academy

Miss S has a cold and an eye infection so she’s been fussy and more of a handful the last few days.  Surprisingly, I was able to take her to my friends baby shower (which I just read online is bad etiquette :S), grocery shopping and then for a little play gym time.  She’s a little baby and a little lady all in one.  She’s putting 2-3 words together, a pro at eating cereal (often asking for seconds or thirds), she listens with intent (not sure she understands everything), “cooks us meals” in her play kitchen, calls the valentines decorations I’ve put up around the house “mamma niiiishh”, is now repeating colours, numbers (with more clarity) and the letters of her name if we spell it out (#ThankYouDaycare) and uses her voice when she’s bothered (mind your she still needs to reminded to be gentle).
Watching her grow and develop is probably the most amazing thing I’ve ever seen.  I am starting to understand why parents in general say that their kids are their greatest accomplishments.

I know the subject of this post has nothing to do with the pictures posted but I just wanted to remind myself that as I need to enjoy and celebrate my daughter (I always think I need to “document” what she does because I have a terrible memory) I also must not lose my sense of self and take time to do things that make me happy (adult only lunches #ThankYouGrandparents, cocktails, cute accessories, learn something and be creative).

Have a great week everyone!
